Jefferson Yacht Club First Mates
The First Mates is the ladies' club of the Jefferson Yacht Club. The First Mates functions hold regularly scheduled meetings and host some of the most popular events at JYC, including children's holiday parties, Sip & Shop, and the Christmas Cocktail Party. The main goal of the First Mates it to raise funds to use towards the beautification of the club though various volunteer programs. The First Mates also oversee the JYC Clothes Closet which offers a variety of JYC logoed gear, clothing and accessories.
Meet the Jefferson Yacht Club First Mates President, Chantel Stripling
Chantel has been a JYC member since 2013. She joined the First Mates in 2015 and became President in 2024. Her husband, Kevin, was on the JYC board and became Rear Commodore. Chantel retired from the Detroit Public Schools in 2020 and has since been nannying for a few families. She loves her dogs, Pudge and Stormi; and her cats, Peach, Finn & Black Kitty. In addition to serving on the First Mates, she helps run the clothing closet with Laura Dawson and teaches a pool workout at the club!
- Overseeing meetings to plan fund-raising activities for the Club
- Helping to set the Goal and Vision of these club activities
- Presiding over committee meetings, managing discussions and ensuring productive outcomes
- Serving as the primary representative of the First Mates committee
- Organizes and hosts club social functions such as themed parties, game nights, and holiday events
- Plans fund-raising activities for club improvements
- Purchases items for the clubhouse or grounds
- Plans vendor nights
- Promotes the general good fellowship of the JYC
- Plans raffles
